Its been awhile – I was wondering…can I take a movie from a DVD and then chop it up in iMovie on the university’s macs? Thanks!

Good to hear from you.
You’ll need a DVD ripper. I’ve used Cocktail and Mac the Ripper with success in the past. Once you do that you’ll be able to chop away in iMovie. (I’d link to them but they’re blocked in HCPS)
Another path is to use a screencapture program to capture pieces of what you want.
