The teacher will explain to the students that they will be watching a slide show that comes from the computer. The slide show is “projected” up on the screen for the students to watch.
The first slide will be turned on with the names of everyone in the class.
The students will have prior knowledge and be able to recognize his/her first name and the names of their classmates. This will get them interested and excited for the next slide.

Lesson Development

Slide One (Names): The teacher will ask what the students are looking at in this first slide. The student that the teacher calls on will answer.
Each student in the class will be asked to come up and point to their own name (one at a time).
Slide Two (My name is): The teacher will read this slide aloud to the students 2-3 times while pointing to each word.
The students will repeat the sentence in unison 2-3 times while the teacher points to each word.
Slide Three (Mrs. Roman.): The teacher will read “Mrs. Roman” aloud 2-3 times while pointing to each word.
The students will repeat “Mrs. Roman” in unison 2-3 times while the teacher points to each word.
The teacher will ask the students what the yellow dot is at the end of “Mrs. Roman” while
pointing to the period.
One student will be called on at a time until the correct answer is said.
The teacher will then reinforce the correct answer by repeating the answer 2-3 times, and then
explain why that symbol is placed at the end of the sentence.
Slide Four (My name is Mrs. Roman.) The teacher will read this slide aloud 2-3 times while pointing to each word.
The teacher will point to the period at the end of the sentence and reiterate why that symbol is there.
The students will repeat the sentence in unison 2-3 times while the teacher points to each word.
The teacher will point to the period and call on one student at a time until someone says what
the symbol is (correctly).
The teacher will then ask if the period belongs at the beginning or the end of the sentence.
The students will be allowed to answer this question in unison.
Slides Five through Seven (My name is Mo, Jo, and Bo.): Repeat the steps for Slide Four for all three of these slides.
Let students enjoy the colorful illustrations of the animals.
Have the students say “Hello Mo, Hello Jo, and Hello Bo” at the end of each slide.
The teacher will pass out the My name is handout.
The teacher will explain to the students that they should not write anything until the teacher is
ready for them to write.
Slides Eight through Ten (My, name, is): The teacher will read aloud the word on each slide
2-3 times while pointing to each word.
The students will write the word on their handout in the appropriate place.
The teacher will then move to the next slide with the next word, and the teacher and students will
repeat the same steps.
Slide Eleven ( .): The teacher will ask the students what word goes on this slide while pointing to the open space on the slide.
The students will be called on and answer one at a time until the correct answer is said (“My
name!” is the correct answer.).
The teacher will ask what goes at the end of the sentence while pointing to the period.
The students will be called on and answer one at a time until the correct answer is said (“A
period!” is the correct answer.).
The students will write their name in the correct place in the sentence.

Closure:

The teacher will show all of the slides again, pausing at each slide, pointing to the words while the students read aloud,in unison, each word on the slides.
During slides five, six and seven the teacher will tell the students to say bye to each animal by name.
Each student will be asked to read aloud their sentence on their handout while pointing to each word. They will do this one at a time.
The teacher will then explain that saying “My name is…” is a wonderful way to introduce themselves to someone. Putting the word “hello” at the beginning of this sentence is also appropriate for introductions.
Each student will be given a “Hello, my name is” sticker and a magic marker. The teacher will tell the students to write their name on the sticker in the appropriate place with their magic marker. (Teacher should model this.)
The teacher will explain that wearing these stickers is a good way for people to recognize who you are if they do not know you (“Only wear them if your teacher or parents/guardians say it is ok.”).
The teacher will collect the students’ handouts, and the students will put their pencils and magic marker away.

HOMEWORK

None.

ASSESSMENT

Formative:
During the repeating portion of this lesson students will be evaluated on how much they participate with the class.

The teacher will monitor the students during this lesson by walking around and guiding them during the writing portion of this lesson. If mistakes are being made, they will be corrected and encouraged to try again before the next slide is shown.

The students will be evaluated on their reading comprehension when they are asked to read their own sentence aloud to the class while pointing to each word. They will be expected to read at their individual level at the time of the lesson (determined by prior assessments).

Summative:
The students’ work will be evaluated and assessed by analyzing the handouts after they have been collected.

If the students have written their names in the correct place on their handout then they get a check.

If the student does not put their name in the correct spot, the student will be expected to correct their mistakes when the papers are handed back. (Guide them in corrections if necessary.)

The students will not be expected to use upper and lower case letters correctly at this point.

    I like that slide deck.

I would be sorely tempted to figure out a way to use the “Hello, my name is . . ” name tags in the post presentation activity.
