Visualization in Action
Life Processes
2.4 The student will investigate and understand that plants and animals undergo a series of orderly
changes in their life cycles. Key concepts include
a) some animals (frogs and butterflies) undergo distinct stages during their lives, while others
generally resemble their parents;
This presentation is a simple representation of the butterfly life cycle. It would be best applied showing the different stages of life to second graders. This would show the students that some animals dramatically change their appearance over their lives and some in their beginning phases don’t necessarily resemble their parents.

Actually, while your art chosen is beautiful in terms of the picture you chosen for this discussion, for the first time, I need to stand my ground and disagree with your guidance.
Being a former scientist in a past life….I have learned that it may be misleading for a second grader to see the butterfly become an egg again. We must be honest and true and divulge that all things must come to an end. Butterflies do not shrivel up and become eggs, they die. At some point in their mature years they will mate and lay eggs. I thought in my process, I show a clear end to the cycle and not a circular motion to it. I felt this might lead to a larger discussion of it and not a continuation of the original cycle.
Just a thought?
I hope this makes sense. If not please let me know.
