Using Voice Thread to discuss Simple Machines
I thought I would use this technology to show the students in this class the six types of simple machines. While I like the pictures from this embedded sample, I was not impressed with the speed in which they covered the material. I would have to slow this down for students to truly walk away with an understanding of simple machines. The thread does show different examples and would initiate critical thinking so that students could think it through. I would simply start and stop the presentation to discuss and reinforce the points they were trying to make.
I would also make the lesson fun with additional hands on activities for the students to see. In addition, I would also like to incorporate video from You Tube showing Wild E. Coyote in action, using his Acme Simple Machines in action to capture the Road Runner. Based on the video’s I saw, I would estimate he uses three to four type of machines in the clips. I am not certain how parents would respond to this, but I would imagine the children would get a lot out of it!
