3 points for building presentations

10-20-30 rule- keep the presentation limited to 10 slides, 20 minutes, and with the use of 30 or more points for the font size.  A long presentation both in content and time duration could mean a lack of preparation or just simply too much information.  It is important to keep things fairly simple and to stick to the point on the slides.

rule of 4- I tend to be extremely detailed with content material; however the rule of 4 suggest to not exceed 4 points or images per slide.  It can get overwhelming for the audience or students if there are too many pictures, graphs/charts, or bullet points per slide.  Keep it simple.

pictures speak louder than a 1000 words-use visuals such as videos and pictures to help students remember what is being presented.  65% of the information presented can be retained if pictures accompany the presentation as opposed to 10% with just words.

  1. Kelly-
I thought that the 10-20-30 rule was a good one, too! I already put a sticky up in my classroom where I work on my powerpoints and also at home so I won’t forget!
