Although a great Powerpoint slide show can help a presenter make a presentation great, it is the person and how they can relate the material.
I came across this presentation on Slideshare. I am extremely interested in health food and human nutrition. Part of my undergraduate studies involved studying food science and nutrition. This topic is important to me because when I look at what children and even adults are putting in their bodies it is makes me sick. I also wonder if people realize how unhealthy their lifestyles are.
Dr. Adam Rinde, ND. created this presentation titled ” You are What You Eat”. Rinde is a Physician of Natural Medicine.
Why I thought this was a “Good Presentation”:
Slide # 2- The presenter introduces himself and describes his expertise on the topic
Slide #3- I like how Rinde starts the presentation with key points. I know that when I am listening to a presentation, I like to know what its going to be about.
Slide # 6- Rinde shows some alarming statistics and I am sure with his knowledge of the topic, he was able to add more. I think that stating the facts is important and can make or break a presentation.
Slide #9- This slide was harder to read because of the font but could be easily changed
Slide #32- After discussing all of the terrible things that people eat and why they are bad, I think that this slide is a great transition. The words are simple and could be a great segue into health food and natural food.
Slide # 33- I like how Dr. Rinde uses this joke to start the discussion of organic foods. There are a lot of stereotypes and bad connotations associated with this health food movement. It is good that he addresses that and then explains its actual purpose.
Slide #54- I think it is great that he shared his contact information but I think that he could have increased the font size.
Overall, Dr. Rinde used Powerpoint properly and used it as a guide not as the bulk of the presentation. You can tell in the presentation that Dr. Rinde is passionate about is topic and that he has a vast knowledge of the topic.
I like the PPT, too! It really does provide a lot of information. I do, however, think that it is really long – I started to get kinda bored, even though I am interested in the topic.
I also agree with you about the need for font changes.
See you in class!
