Twitter?

I finally joined the rest of the cyber- nerds and joined twitter. My overall impression before was one that you could follow celebrities and hear about their insignificant day to day happenings. I could really careless about what Spencer Pratt or Heidi Montag are up to. I joined and began following a few education twitter pages. The American Institute for Research was the first one I followed. It was actually interesting because they post the most current articles on issues in education. I also followed The U.S Department of Education. They basically use twitter the same way they would use a news center on their web page. Both the American Institute for Research and U.S. Department of Education are using twitter to reach a younger audience and help increase their viewership.

I think that twitter could be a valuable tool for publishing homework or other announcements and having either older students or the parents of younger students follow your class. I think twitter would be more convenient than updating a web page daily or writing a full email announcement. It would also be convenient to send the “tweet” because you can simply send them from your phone.
