Sandy Tate commented on the blog post 1st Grade Animal Classification Lesson Plan (Presentation) 1 year, 1 month ago
I update the turtle slide to show both shell & scales. I also updated the “Why is the animal body covering important?” slide to contain only that wording. I will allow the students to provide answers and write on the board. The lesson plan was updated accordingly. Thanks!

I have created a first grade lesson plan to teach animal classification specific to animal body coverings (VA Science SOL 1.5b). It covers the following animal body coverings: hair, fur, feathers, scales, shells. The Keynote presentation contains photos of animals. Students need to identify the animal body covering for each slide/photo. Then…[Read more]

Sandy Tate wrote a new blog post: Using Real World Media To Teach About Blizzards 1 year, 3 months ago
A few weeks ago I sat in my daughter’s second grade classroom and helped a small group of students who needed extra assistance taking their science test on weather. I remember when I saw a question regarding blizzards I thought to myself, “Oh, this is an easy one, they’ll all get this one right.”. I [...]

I totally forgot about Read Write Think and am glad I saw it here. It is a wonderful resource for lesson ideas. I used it often in several classes. I also found Michelle Rhee’s StudentsFirst blog to be really cool. I’ve seen a few news stories about her and I think I’ll enjoy keeping up [...]

Sandy Tate commented on the blog post How does Gardner’s A Personal Cyberinfrastructure apply to what you teach in k-6? 1 year, 4 months ago
Narration should impact encouraging students to think out loud. For example, to share their thought process in how they got to a particular answer in math. Often the thought process behind ideas is more important than the final answer. Curation, would be how we show our work, be it in a written journal, posted on [...]

Sandy Tate wrote a new blog post: How does Gardner’s A Personal Cyberinfrastructure apply to what you teach in k-6? 1 year, 4 months ago
A lot of what Gardner Campbell writes about in A Personal Cyberinfrastructure and speaks about in his presentation on No Digital Facelifts: Thinking The Unthinkable About Open Educational Experiences on YouTube is above my level of comprehension when it comes to technology. I can often navigate the plug-and-play, turnkey web applications…[Read more]
