About Me
“It’s important for people to know where they come from, and where others have been.” ~ Into the West (2005)
Education has played a central role in my life. It is my sincere belief that knowledge is power, and how we obtain that knowledge is just as important as how we use it. I never thought I would want to be a public school teacher. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia, with the expectation that I would have a career in international affairs or university education. After teaching English to high school students in Japan with the JET Programme, however, I realized that teaching at the elementary or secondary level is a career I would like to pursue. Since my stint in Japan, I’ve been a substitute teacher and an instructional assistant for special education in Chesterfield County. It is from these experiences that I have decided to embark on this journey to become a teacher.
I hope that as I continue this adventure, I acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to become a great teacher. I do not know what lies ahead, but I do know that I would like to specialize in the special student populations, specifically Special Education, Gifted Education, and English as a Second Language. In addition, I hope to someday teach History and Japanese.
