For the lesson plan with PowerPoint, I decided to write a lesson for SOL 4.2, regarding force and motion. The PowerPoint I created will serve as a warm-up/refresher for students. This lesson is meant to be conducted after the introduction of the concept of force and motion to students. I will use the slides to ask students questions related to force: for example, what kind of energy–potential or kinetic–does the wheel have? Does Mort need to exert more or less force to move the boulder? Why is it harder for Mort to push the snow ball uphill? What causes the object to speed up or slow down?
After the warm-up with PowerPoint, I will demonstrate an experiment to students (experiment procedure is included with lesson plan). Then, students will form groups and conduct the experiment. Once all groups complete the experiment, we will discuss the results of the experiment, as well as components of the experiment’s setup (ex: What is your hypothesis? What changed that affected the results of the experiment? etc.)
