I would show this video clip and have the students calculate the distance of the kicker from the end zone and from other places on the field. Then i would have students calculate midpoints. Finally, I would also students draw a rough estimate of the trajectory of the ball as the field goal is being kicked, estimating the slope.

Think about the Dan Meyer videos you watched. How do those concepts apply here?
I really liked the Dan Meyer video about the teacher moving to different places and having his students graph the movement. I would replay the video as many times as I had to until the students graphed it accurately. I might try to find another video that shows the kick from the side instead of head-on.
