Classroom Management

Educators often fail to engage students with real-life, interesting applications of math concepts. Though students need to work through problems to learn various math strategies, these problems can (and should) be based around real-world examples and authentic assessment techniques.

I will encourage students to explore creative methods of learning. Though I will base my lessons on Standards of Learning and provided Curriculum Frameworks, I will maintain a highly student-centered classroom. Though students will be graded through tests, homework, and other summative assessments, I will attempt to base the participation grade on improvement over time and a series of formative assessments.

My classroom management style will adhere strictly to the school and district Student Code of Conduct. I will enforce all school/district rules to the best of my ability. I will be firm and fair with all students. I will strive to implement preventative strategies, such as planning interesting, engaging lessons, in attempt to minimize the amount of necessary discipline.
