Lesson Plan with Video Integration

This lesson plan focuses upon the conjugation of -ar verbs in Spanish. Students have used various conjugated verbs in class so far, but this is the first formal lesson on how to conjugate these verbs. The majority of the class is teaching them the information. The lesson concludes with a video from YouTube entitled “Conjugation Song”.

The video serves as a supplemental strategy; the song is well-known by the students and it is also very ‘catchy’. The video was created by a Spanish student as a class project and the lyrics review the process for conjugation of -ar verbs. Many students learn and retain information most effectively when it is presented via a mnemonic device, rhyme, or a song. This is a fun, interesting, and different way to reinforce the lesson. Students have been previously instructed that, in the second semester, they will be responsible for creating a video project of their own. Integration of this ‘Conjugation Back’ video into the lesson not only reinforces the material that they have been learning, but also serves as an example of  teacher expectations when they begin their own video. *I show several different examples throughout the first semester so that students can begin brainstorming. All video examples that I show are relevant to lessons being delivered in the classroom at that time.
